With 10 locations, Duffy’s is the premier sports grill and the fastest growing restaurant chain in South Florida. Their implementation of cutting edge technology is helping them meet their business objectives.
Duffy’s selected the POSitouch POS system from Pinnacle in 2001 for its Northlake location. It was subsequently introduced into their other restaurants. Duffy’s utilizes all of the features of POSitouch, including back office operations. Sales, labor, and time and attendance data are collected from all their restaurants through high speed Internet connections and stored in a central database. Menus are maintained centrally and electronically distributed to each restaurant. The central database also interfaces with their accounting package.
Paul Emmett, co-owner, explains why Duffy’s selected Pinnacle. “With our aggressive growth strategy, we didn’t want to get lost dealing with a large national company. We wanted a vendor that would give us the attention we needed and still be big enough to handle our growth. Pinnacle is known as a high quality regional supplier of POS systems and they met our criteria.“
Technology also increases the likelihood of repeat business with Duffy’s loyalty and gift card programs. Paul said, “With the implementation of our loyalty program, we have eliminated all discounting. We have about 70,000 members in our first year.“
Duffy’s continues to evaluate new technologies. In their newest store they have implemented a digital video surveillance system that is integrated with the POSitouch system. Paul said, “This enables us to monitor activity in the restaurant from remote locations using the Internet. If this is beneficial to our operation, we will add video cameras to all of our locations. Duffy’s is also experimenting with wireless handhelds for curbside service and inventory control. They will soon begin to evaluate the implementation of a Wi-Fi Hotspot Internet connection.
Paul stated, “We are very happy with the POSitouch system. It is constantly evolving and staying in touch with technology advances.” Although Duffy’s has a dedicated IT person, Paul believes for support, that “it makes economic sense for us to contract with Pinnacle for a full service contract, including all upgrades.”
Paul explains, “Duffy’s wants to be on the cutting edge of restaurant technology. We will continue to evaluate new technologies with the goal of turning technology expenditures into financial gains.”
