A Bar Code is just a different way of encoding numbers and letters by using a combination of bars and spaces of varying widths. This is just another way of entering data into your POS system. A bar code does not contain descriptive data. It is a reference number that the POS uses to look up an associated record that contains descriptive data and other important information. For example, a barcode found on a soda can does not contain the product name, type of soda, or price, instead, it contains a 12-digit product number. When this number is scanned at the POS it is transmitted to the computer which finds the record associated with that item number in the data base. The computer instantly does a "price lookup" and displays the price on the POS.
Bar Code scanning helps speed up service in several types of food service environments. You can put bar codes on the check you give to the customer. In a cashier environment the customer simply gives the check to the cashier and the cashier scans it and that check is immediately pulled up in the system. Bar code scanning can be used to track any retail items you may sell, for example, bottles of wine, cans of soda, etc.. In a deli environment, you can have your scale print a barcode out and stick it on your deli meat or salad and the cashier simply scans the bar code and the proper price and weight is entered into the POS.
We can customize a barcode scanning option that fits the needs of however you have your operation set up.
